Topps was found roaming rural Texas with six other dogs that were also rescued. H e arrived to Virginia on March 3rd and is currently living in a boarding facility with his siblings as there were no fosters available to take him. UPDATE: Topps was taken in by a foster on 3/17/23 - here is an update since being in their home: Topps is the most calm, laid back puppy I've been around. He barely makes a peep and just wants your loving! He was slowly introduced to the two bigger dogs in our house, and shows interest but doesn't bother them. He wants to play and will do great if he has a big brother or sister to show him the ropes and he can follow around and play with - but would be fine on his own as well. Initially he was very unsure about being in the home, he wasn't sure about crossing threshold of doorways, wasn't sure about stairs or steps, but is getting settled in now. Topps came to SSR with a previous injury to his back right leg, the vet believes was from being hit by a car, and it healed over time on its own - leaving him with a favoring of that leg, but he has learned to accommodate well, with steps and running and playing (see video). We are going to see how he adjusts, but for now would only recommend a home with short set of stairs that maybe are into and out of house, but long stairwells in the house we need to carry him up/down. Will work on this to see if it's a fear/unknown or he can't manage it with his injured leg. - Lays down and totally chill in car rides - Goes into kennel during day on own to relax, at night he doesn't make a peep! - So far, not at all interested in our two cats. - Played in yard off leash with my sisters younger pitty, and would follow her around, he could easily be trained for off leash play due to the fact she loves to stay around you. A rabbit did catch his interest, but he didn't go after at all. Working on sit and come right now. This dog is an absoute gem!! 3/23 update: WE DID IT!! The fear of unknown is what limits this pup, definitely NOT his leg injury! We have mastered the stairway in the house up AND down! And, we passed the cat test! My card are used to dogs being around, but Topps, like my other GSD could care about them, except being playful when my younger cat wants to antagonize the dogs! LOL. *See the new videos of both these accomplishments! ❤️ More about Topps 2733Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids, Good with Adults, Somewhat vocal, Does Good in the Car, Requires a yard, Cratetrained, Playful, Timid, Eager To Please, Gentle Topps 2733's sister, Ducky 2735 (adopted) can also be seen on our website.
