Strawberry is a young, spayed female German Shepherd that recently turned 1 year old. She is still very much so a "puppy" although she has grown to 60lbs! She is in good health and is heartworm negative.

As her name suggests, Strawberry is very sweet and she loves her people. She is initially nervous and skeptical of strangers but once she builds a good, respectful relationship with them, she will be whining for pets and insisting she become a lap dog. She is a great couch buddy for binge-watching your favorite TV show! She is also a great fetch partner and will actually bring back the ball and give it to you!

Strawberry has been through training that was funded by SSR. She is well-trained and knows the following commands: Sit, down, heel, place, come. She is also crate and leash trained.

Strawberry's adopters will need to be dedicated to providing her good structure and using what she learned at training in her new home. She has been e-collar conditioned and her new family will have to be on board with using it as a training tool at home. Strawberry's family will be provided with complimentary "go-home" sessions with her trainer in Northern Virginia to show the family her commands, how to work with her e-collar, etc. Her trainer will also gladly be available for any advice needed during the transition into the home, and will also provide follow-up in-person training sessions at the adopter's expense if needed.

Strawberry does have some anxiety around unfamiliar people and environments. She will be an EXCELLENT family dog for a lowkey family that enjoys relaxing at home and doing quieter activities such as hiking, gardening, going on walks, etc. She thoroughly enjoys just being next to her humans with whatever they're doing, whether it's working from home or having a movie night. Strawberry would not enjoy being in large crowds or busy places, as it overstimulates her and stresses her out.

Strawberry does like to have her personal space and prefers to cuddle and get pet on her own terms. Because of this, we do not recommend she go to a home with small children as they might not yet understand how to respect a dog's boundaries.

Strawberry lives with two dog-savvy cats in her foster home. She does not have an instinct to hurt them like prey, but she does seem to want to play and be friends with them. When the cats are calm she doesn’t bother them, but when they’re running around she wants to chase and play with them. She responds great to correction, both from humans and from the cats, and has started leaving them alone more. She would do fine in a home with dog-savvy cats.

Strawberry has lived with other dogs and can be selective with some dogs. She has been trained around various dogs and she is currently crated next to another dog in the foster home and is non-reactive. We're unsure at this time how she would be playing off-leash with other dogs as we have not attempted it.
