Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Mina 2541 needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
Mina and baby Mira were found as strays in Texas. When the person who found them took them to the shelter, they wanted to immediately euthanize mom because she had mange. A friend contacted SSR and we said we would take them. They arrived in Virginia at the end of April and transferred to their foster in Delaware. She has come a long way at her foster home, quickly learning how to be a great pup! She responds extremely well to correction, does well in the crate, and is potty-trained. She stays pretty close to foster mom, so a fence is not required at this time. This could change as she gains confidence, but for now, she's happy staying close by and romping in the yard with baby Mira. She is food motivated and already learned "sit," "down," "come," and "paw." We're working on "stay"! She would be very easy to train when she regains her confidence, given her eagerness to please and food motivation. She did very well with adults and children during an adoption event at a crowded brewery. She has done excellently with visitors in the foster home, and is getting along well with her GSD foster brother. She also did well with a group of older neighborhood children who understood Mina's boundaries when she was ready to move on. She is still a bit timid, so dog-savvy kids would be best. She is a bit mouthy when she wants to play, but she's working on this and does very well if you correct the action with a squirt bottle. She has made great progress since coming to her foster home and now barely requires correction for it. She does well with her foster brother! She tolerates his barking and zoomies well, although she'd prefer a more calm sibling if she had the choice. She does excellently in the car. She would make the ultimate adventure partner for someone who likes to travel by car. She is calm and solely seeks love and attention from her person. She loves fiercely and is the true definition of a velcro dog. She enjoys her short walks but isn't very high energy. She has little to no ball drive (zero interest in playing fetch), but she can occasionally be convinced to thrash with a toy and have a good time. She is HW+ but has already started treatment. Her mange is healing nicely and she is scheduled for spay on June 9, 2022.
