01/20/21 Update: The puppies are adopted and mama Chelsea ready to be adopted!
12/29/21 Update: Chelsea's babies are almost weaned and will be ready for adoption soon which means its time for this sweet girl to find her forever home! Chelsea is a very sweet and loving girl. She is heartworm positive and will be started on slow kill treatment, at the rescue's expense, once she is separated from her puppies. Chelsea likes to be close to her people and likes attention. She gives great hugs and likes belly rubs. She is housebroken and crate trained. She does need a small incentive (dog treat) to go into her crate but once she is in, she is calm and quite. She walks well on a leash and does great on car rides. She will rip apart and swallow any and all stuffed toys so no stuffies for this girl! It seems as though Chelsea was a stray for a little while because she is constantly looking for food. She will steal food off the counter and out of your hand. She is working on take treats properly but might nip a finger out of excitement. She will also quietly steal the treat bag and eat them all when you're not looking. She is full of mischief and likes to explore so Chelsea is looking for an active home that can stimulate her mind and give her plenty of exercise. If you're not paying attention to her for long periods of time and she gets bored, she will open doors, cabinets and bins to see what she can play with! However she does well just hanging out in the office with you while you're working. She is quite for zoom calls and will mostly nap on the floor near you. We would recommend you crate Chelsea at nighttime and when you're not home as she will get bored and get into things she shouldn't. Chelsea does well with other dogs, cats and some farm animals that she has met. She will be spayed in January and then be ready for her forever home! She cannot attend adoption events just yet but is welcoming approved adopters for meet and greets at her foster home!
Chelsea was one of the three dogs found together on the side of a busy highway in Texas. She had a broken leg due to being struck by a car and has already had surgery to repair it. She is doing great! She is HW+ and will be treated by the rescue … oh….and she’s pregnant (Dexter!!). She arrived to her Virginia foster on November 5th.
On 11/21/21 Chelsea welcomed 11 puppies into the world and it looks like Dexter might be off the hook... these babies look nothing like him or the other dog she was with. We have no idea who the father was but we do know that Chelsea is an amazing Momma and doing well. She will be available for adoption after her puppies are weaned and she gets spayed.
