I found out about Gracie (SSR Priscilla) through a friend who rescues dogs. Tammy Livingston posted a story about needing a hospice foster for a dog named Priscilla. Once I saw her and the video I couldn't say no.

I talked to my significant other Todd, and asked him sweetly “Can we please give this dying German Shepherd a place to be loved before she passes?”  He thought about it and said yes!  I filled out the foster info for SSR and we made a plan to get her. A lovely lady drove her all the way from San Antonio!!!

At first, we could tell she was in pain, scared, tired and didn't know what was going on. When we got her home, we gave a much-needed bath, brushed her, gave her food and water and let her explore our home.  We gave Gracie time to settle in before we needed to take her to an orthopedic surgeon to get her leg checked out and to rule out cancer.

We saw the surgeon and he suggested an FHO surgery, where they don't replace the full hip but cut off the ball, which we agreed to but first had to get her not anemic and then do surgery. We got her blood count up did the surgery and now she is healing. Mind you while we worked with her to get her blood count up, we taught her how to climb stairs and go down. Let her know that the down stairs couch was hers and that we loved her unconditionally.

She had the surgery and healing very well.  It is a slow process but she is using the leg more and more. We got her blood tested again and good news everything is improving so we ruled out cancer!! Just bad arthritis. She won the heart of my significant other and I. After thinking about it and talking about it we decided Gracie made out family more complete so we went from Fosters to Adopters!  We thank SSR for giving us the opportunity to foster a very sweet and loveable girl!!!! We are glad we have such a sweet angel!!
