Barcelona and her mother Muneca were abandoned when their owner went into the hospital in January 2023 for COVID and never returned. The family left them out on the property to fend for themselves and they lived under the house for a year in TX! Thankfully the neighbors were kind enough to feed them. During the TX Artic Blast in January 2024, SSR came to their rescue. They are both safe now in VA. Barcelona is only a year old. Her first year has not been an easy and she has a few scars to prove it. Barcelona is a beautiful dog and is slowly coming out of her shell. She is a shy and has been under her mother's wing. They are not a bonded pair and can be adopted separately. Barcelona lost her family and home in TX. She is ready to start the next chapter with her forever family. We will keep you updated as we learn more about Barcelona. More About Barcelona! She is settling in at her foster family's home. Barcelona is happy to finally have a warm bed and people who care for her. She definitely picks her person and wants to stay near them for reassurance. Barcelona is showing some signs of separation anxiety but, may improve as she gains confidence. Barcelona is opening up and becoming less shy and skittish now that she is decompressing. She seems to have some familiarity with basic commands like sit, lie down and heel but needs reinforcement. Barcelona is warming up to the resident dogs and starting to open up to play. She is doing well walking with the other dogs and being outside leashed with them. She is good with older kids. She is becoming less skittish around people or dogs who move quickly or come up behind her, but is probably best with older considerate kids as she does get startled sometimes. She barks at the cats and will give chase if they come downstairs, but she doesn't seek them out or go into their domain. She doesn't mind the resident chickens and goats at all! Barcelona is HW+ and is being treated with the slow kill method. Heartworm treatment is covered by the rescue.
