Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Current PA foster: Charlie is such a good dog! He is very sweet and likes to be around you, but will also chill out in his crate if you want him to. He is quiet and doesn’t really bark much. He likes to sleep in the crate, but during the day he will relax on a raised dog bed or a regular dog bed. He does well with steps and does not pull on walks. When he sees other dogs on walks he does not bark or react even if they are. He lets me enter and exit doors first so I think he may have been trained at some point. He is not a jumper or quick moving. He has met other dogs of all sizes and likes all of them. He seems to prefer female dogs, but I think he would be ok with a male dog as well. As an only dog he would be ok if he has an owner that spends time with him. He likes most treats and is gentle with taking them from you. He does not appear to be food aggressive. He is more submissive and is fine not being the Alfa dog. He appreciates all love given to him and seems to be open to anyone it comes from. He is starting to like toys now and has a favorite that he carries around with him. He is now watching and enjoying everything going on around him. He walks right up to new people and accepts lots of pets. On a trip to Lowe’s he met a lot of new people and was loving all of the attention. He likes car rides and sits or lays down in the back like a gentleman. He is a very easy dog who just wants a family to love him. Charlie wants you to know if you adopt him, he would like a raised dog bed. It’s all the comfort he’s ever dreamed of. Previous Texas Foster: Charlie's story is a very sad tale to tell. He was surrendered to a very small, terrible TX shelter in July and spent months there ill. He was rescued by SSR and has a Texas foster. Charlie is doing much better physically but mentally he is totally shut down. His foster mom says he is just so sad. Sadness like she has never seen. Right now this boy is incredibly quiet and calm. He will barely acknowledge anything happening around him. His foster mom even introduced her plumber to Charlie thinking maybe he preferred men. Charlie didn't acknowledge him either. We don't know what happened to Charlie but we know he is struggling to just live through it. He is in the the best hands with his foster mom. We will keep you posted on Charlie's progress.
