Mountain Mama was a resilient stray dog found on an abandoned strip mine with a litter of 12 puppies. The family narrowly escaped being dropped off at a rural shelter that didn’t have the resources to care for them before SSR stepped in to save them. Once a lone dog fighting to feed herself and her pups in the wild, Mama now spends her days lounging on the couch and eating all of the kibble her heart (and tummy!) desires. Her parenting days are over and she is now ready for her forever home. Mama loves playing with other dogs and makes a great feline companion as well. All she wants is a home to call her own with a couch she can snooze on all day. And a human she can snuggle with all night! Mama behaves very well and is potty-trained. She handles extremely well at the vet too! She is crate trained, but will protest vocally throughout the day. Mama is not destructive though and is a great candidate for free roaming without having to be crated. She is heartworm positive and is being treated at SSR’s expense. Heartworm is not contagious.
