Sirius was rescued by SSR from a shelter in San Antonio. He had been found and turned into the shelter where they scanned him for a microchip and found him to be owned by someone. When the shelter called the registered owners, they said they no longer wanted him and that he could stay at the shelter. Sirius arrived to Virginia in February 2023 and was living at a boarding facility until recently. A wonderful volunteer visited Sirius at boarding and took him out for a day on the town to get a feel for his personality. Sirius proved himself to be the goofy, sweet boy we all expected him to be. He very much so enjoyed the company of humans and would make a lovely companion. He is a big boy and will continue to fill out as we try to put some more weight on him. He recently went into foster care and we are excited to see more of his personality come out. He love's to go for walks! While he is pretty calm the majority of the time on the leash, he does get excited and will pull. A strong handler will be required while he works on his reactivity towards squirrels and birds. There were children screaming and playing at the park; the screams caught him off-guard but he otherwise didn't seem to be affected by the little humans. Sirius has lived with other dogs before and seems to be dog-friendly! He didn't show any signs of aggression or reactivity towards dogs at the boarding facility or at a recent adoption event. We're unsure about cats at this time, but given his interested in squirrels, we might lean towards a 'no' unless an adopter is willing to work on desensitization of the feline friends. Sirius is looking for a nice family to call his own. As a very happy-go-lucky boy, he would be be a wonderful addition to any family. His beautiful, brown eyes are ready to melt your heart as he begs you to take him home.
