Lucie was an owner surrender to SSR in Texas. She arrived in Virginia on January 14th and went to a foster home. There it was discovered that Lucie has some prey drive toward cats and squirrels. Since her previous foster had cats, this was not the ideal environment for her. On January 17th, we picked up Lucie from her previous foster and took her into our home. We learned that this adorable girl is sweet and cuddly. She likes to give kisses and follow you around wherever you go. Lucie knows a few basic commands like sit, lay down, and paw. This girl is pretty petite, coming in at only 40 pounds. She is heartworm negative, house-trained, and loves to play with toys. She will entertain herself by throwing toys around and rolling around on the floor. Lucie has a high amount of energy, but as long as she gets her energy worked off, she will still relax throughout the day. We thought we found the perfect family for Lucie, and she went home with them on 01/22. While with this family, Lucie started showing signs of separation anxiety with reluctance to go into her crate. Due to their long work hours, the family decided that they were not the best fit for Lucie and returned her to us a few weeks later on 02/17. Since Lucie returned to us, we have been working on her separation anxiety and crate training. She also needs work with her leash manners as she is a big puller. Lucie will bark at other dogs while on a leash when she wants to say hi or play with them. Lucie loves other dogs and likes to be around people. As mentioned before, Lucie has a lot of energy, so an active household with a playmate or two would best suit her. She would be best placed with an experienced adopter who can help her work through some of her training needs. She has a bit of a prey drive, so no cats in the house are recommended. If you are interested in Lucie, fill out an adoption application or let your caseworker know. Info from previous adopter: Lucie is an utter beauty inside and out. She is sweet and affectionate and wants to be where you are, and she is extremely and adorably playful. She'll throw her ball for herself to chase or toss it into your lap so you can throw it for her. She's food-motivated and eager to please, so she's eminently trainable. Lucie really doesn't like to be alone, so she would do best in a home with another dog, or if that's not possible, a home where she doesn't have to be left alone much. She is house-trained and will generally let you know when she needs to go out. She is small enough to be manageable on walks, but she does like to try to chase squirrels and cars, so could use some work on her leash manners. She is a very good girl and will learn quickly, and she will be a fantastic and wonderful companion for some lucky family.
