Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Simba is a sweet girl who loves belly rubs, long walks, and anyone she meets. She was in boarding in Texas from August to December and has been in Virginia since early December. During that time she has shown us her goofy and loving personality. Simba loves to greet people and has never met a stranger. She doesn't have a high prey drive and gets along well with other dogs, although she can be territorial with food and treats. Simba would do well in most homes. She does well in a crate, but would love to be in a family where people are home most of the day or she can roam freely. If she has too much time alone, she can become mischievous, but is not usually destructive. She walks well on a leash although she has to be reminded not to pull too much. She is housebroken and knows her name and "no" but not many other commands. She does not bark, but does whine when she's not getting the attention she wants. If going to a family with other dogs, she would need additional training to not be aggressive protecting her food and treats. She passed her cat test at the shelter, but has not had frequent interaction with cats in our home. Simba does have a few health issues that she is currently being treated for. She is heartworm positive and is being treated at SSR's expense. She has a double ear infection, that she seems to have had for a while. Additionally, she has skin issues that cause her to scratch a lot. She's good about taking her medicine and receiving her treatments. She is also scheduled to be spayed at the end of January.
