Maxine is a sweet 5 year-old female, about 60 pounds, who is just starting to come out of her shell. She's gentle, loving, and wants humans to call her own! She can be a bit skeptical of strangers when she meets them and shows this through avoidance, but once she deems you a friend she's quite affectionate. Maxine has so much love to give and just wants a family to enjoy life with.

Maxine adores exploring new places and riding in the car. We suspect that she was used as a kenneled breeding dog in Texas, so any outside adventure is a thrill for her. She is still learning good leash manners and how to calmy walk. Maxine will require slow introductions to any dog that she is going to be sharing a home with. She can be food-possessive around other dogs, likely due to food scarcity in her past, so she will need to be monitored while eating around other dogs. She does have a bit of a prey drive, so we suggest no cats.

Maxine is heartworm positive, so her new family will have to continue her  "slow kill" medication regimen and limited activity. SSR will pay for the continued heartworm treatment through their medical program. She doesn't seem to have high exercise needs, but they may increase as her heartworm resolves and she feels better.
