Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Hernan was transferred from a high kill shelter in Texas. He is heartworm positive, which will be treated at SSR's expense. He also had an old injury to his leg that made it unusable and a mass on his left femur (not cancerous), which resulted in his leg being removed, but don't tell him as he's getting around just fine. He arrived to the Virginia area and his foster is getting to know him, so check back soon! FOSTER: He is a happy, hopeful, smart boy -- and handsome. Housetrained, calmly friendly to all people and dogs, likes children, UPDATE: good with cats, interested but chill. Would love to have a dog sibling to play with, but a large and wild young thing who is determined to body slam him all the time would not be in his best interest. Good on leash. Intelligent, attentive, and willing to do what you ask. Doesn't jump up or body slam you. Makes noises EXACTLY like a Wookie when washed. Wipes his whiskers after dinner. Fit right in with my two females. Has a very melodious howl, which he does when my girls bark, but only then. He is a big boy, but thin. He should be around 70 lbs and he is 59 just now. He is heartworm+ so tires easily and needs low, steady activity for a while. SSR will pay for slow kill treatment. He can manage some stairs so far (because tripod). He has come a long way since his leg surgery.
