Meet Jaeger (pronounced *yay-grr*). Jaeger has spent much of his adult life on a chain before coming to SSR. Here is what we know about him so far.
He’s the best! Four years on a chain, and he could not be a nicer dog!
Jaeger is:
*loving — super Velcro boy who loves being petted, following you everywhere, and actively seeking out affection. I suspect he didn’t get much love previously and wants to make up for lost time. He gives very sweet, gentle kisses.
*trusting — within 24 hours with me, would let me touch him all over, and would let me pry open his mouth to put pills in. He will make himself vulnerable by rolling over for belly rubs, and readily offers up his hind end for butt scratches (and then he does this cute little dance when he gets them).
*calm — no jumping up, no excessive vocalization, no crazy zoomies.
Vital stats:
Size XXL! He is a big boy and very tall. And have mentioned he is super handsome? Well, he is!
Estimated five years old
Currently 90 pounds and a little on the skinny side
Housetrained
Crate trained
Dog friendly — he has my almost 10 y/o sleep-all-day couch potato dog playing!
People friendly (will test kids soon) — loves everyone he meets.
Cat friendly — with the caveat that he does chase the kitty when she runs, but if she is sitting still he wags his tail and his body posture is relaxed.
Intact, but scheduled for his neuter on July 29.
Sadly, after four years of being outside on a chain it was all but inevitable that Jaeger would test positive for heartworms, and he has. He will be started soon on the slow kill method for treating heartworms, and SSR will pay for his treatment by this method even after adoption.
I could go on and on about what a wonderful dog he is, but I’ll just say this: Jaeger is the real deal and is going to make someone very happy. If you are an approved adopter and are interested in learning more about Jaeger, please let your caseworker know.
