Aug. 14, 2022 - Cash did well at the SSR event with lots of dogs and people around. He was also gentle with the kids who wanted to pet him. Aug. 9, 2022 - Cash is a 2 year old (best guess) neutered German Shepherd mix who was saved from a kill shelter in Texas thanks to the SSR Community who came up with the “cash” to bail him out! He currently weighs around 52 pounds and needs to gain some weight. He is heartworm positive but has started treatment (to be taken care of by SSR). He just arrived in Virginia a few days ago.
Cash will stare lovingly into your eyes and his smile is adorable. He has wonderfully thick and soft fur around his neck for a good pet and an awesome floofy tail.
He loves to spend time in his crate (without being told/directed by foster Mom) and he loves spending time outside. He’ll even sit at the window hoping to go outside with you. When you do get ready to go outside, he likes to jump at the door out of excitement, but then sits pretty waiting.
This boy seems to be very happy and loves to nuzzle/cuddle under your armpit if you’re sitting on the floor. He also loves to play with his ball and toy lamb and is not at all destructive. He loves loves loves to be touched and petted. He loves to “kiss” his human’s hands but his kisses are quirky/mouthy almost like a nip. He loves his people and can be rambunctious to get a pet, so he could knock over little children easily. He has been anxious in the car, so properly securing him while traveling is a good idea.
Cash lives with a German Shepherd in his foster home and does fine – he’s not food aggressive at all. In Texas, he may have stayed outside with cats, but in Virginia his foster family has witnessed his desire to chase the outside neighborhood cat.
On Day 1 Cash cried and whimpered but by Day 3 that subsided. When his human leaves, he does whimper for a few minutes but that quickly settles down. When he hears a police/fire siren, he has an amazing howl. He has been totally fine while the humans are at work.
He doesn’t appear to know basic commands and is not leash trained, but he is crate trained and potty trained and will let you touch him all over. While he does not know “heel” on the leash yet, he is easily redirected and amenable to where you want him to go. On neighborhood walks he has been interested in the other dogs (not reactive or aggressive) and is easily redirected by his foster family (would chase the squirrels if allowed).
While in Texas, Cash had hip xrays; they indicate he could possibly have arthritis when he is old (won’t we all?!?!).
------------------------------------- Aug. 5, 2022 - Cash was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas. He arrived in Virginia on Aug. 5 and is located in Alexandria. Keep an eye out for updates while his foster family gets to know him better. If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know.
