Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Rexford wemt through a lot in the first 6 months of his life. He was rescued from a partner vet in Texas after an accident that caused multiple pelvic breaks. Unfortunately, his owners could not afford the surgery, so SSR was contacted, and Rexford underwent lifesaving surgery to repair the damage. After his surgery, he was confined to his crate to restrict movement and now has severe muscle atrophy in his back legs that make him look and walk a little differently. Every day Rexford gets stronger and despite all the pain and trauma he experienced he is a sweet, happy, goofy boy. He is fully crate/house trained and sleeps through the entire night. He even lets his foster parents sleep in until 8:30 AM on the weekends! Rexford does need his new family to be patient with him. He has lost a lot of training time, while healing, and struggles to sit on command due to sensitivity from his injuries. Leash walking is also a work in progress. Rexford, has so far, done well with cats and is excellent with dogs of all sizes and ages. He loves playing with his foster sister, but also enjoys chewing a good bone and lounging on the floor. Sometimes he likes to place his butt on one of the memory foam dog beds, but still prefers to hang the rest of his body off. He loves his walks and tolerates his mobility rehab which only takes a few minutes a couple of times a day. His energy level is moderate, but every day sees him more and more active. Rexford can be mouthy, but is learning manners and doing better. Rexford likes to meet new people, though sometimes can be a bit timid depending on the atmosphere. When taken to a large event with many people and dogs he did great and took everything in. He walked through the crowd with ease. If you are looking for a dog that is extremely sweet, good with other dogs, and good in crowds, Rexford could be for you! Rexford arrived at his Virginia foster on May 27th 2022, and is ready for his forever home!
