Pierogi is a lovely, playful, kind, and loving dog; he'd be an excellent loyal companion to his family. He wants to soak up all the love he can get, which probably he didn't get much at all in his previous life. Pierogi has a low prey drive, gets along with cats, and is best with dog savvy or older kids (he is with 9 and 11 y in the same house now). He sleeps well in the crate and potties outside. He is excellent in the car. On leash, he walks and behaves well. He is an excellent running mate. He is a shepherd that likes to bark at the door and walk his perimeter. Pierogi has made huge progress since he has been with us and also with another highly experienced foster family. Everything was new for him in the house when he arrived; wooden floors were slippery, stairs were too much to manage with four paws, and, wait... humans do not interact with their mouths! They do it with paws and barking in a low pitch; how odd!! But, day by day, with enthusiasm, he has made tremendous progress. Pierogi arrived jumping and nipping us to get attention and play, but he has done a complete turnaround on that just in a matter of a few months; he has learned to sit, waits for his food until he is given a command to eat, eats gently from your hand, and is gradually learning other commands. He requires a family that will love him and will continue training him. We think he can also do very well in a house with 1 person and no other pets.
Dog Name: Mr. Pierogi Pierogi was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas. He is heartworm positive but will be treated at SSR's expense. Pierogi arrived in Virginia on April 29th.
