Laika was found as a stray in Texas. She had some hairloss but is regrowing that now at her foster's house. She arrived to her Virginia foster on March 19th. 3/28/22 Update: Laika has been in my home for over a week. This girl is so so sweet. But also scared of new things. She is heartworm positive but the rescue pays for slow kill. She is crate trained and does better in a airline crate instead of a wired one. She likes my grandchildren and likes other dogs. She will need obedience training and leash work. I have been just trying to get her to trust me and I have been showering her with love. Even though humans have failed her in the past it hasn't affected her. She loves everyone she meets. She is shy at first but once she knows you won't hurt her she will lick you and give kisses. She does resource guard her food and toys while in her crate. She only does this in her crate if a dog comes up to it. I am able to put my hand in her food and take her toys. I am also able to pet her while eating and take it away. Please reach out to your caseworker or apply to adopt. 6-23-22 update. Laika is an amazing dog. She is shy at first but once she gets to know you, she wants to be a lap dog. We went camping last week and she did amazing. Never barked unless she saw a squirrel. She slept beside me in the tent and never moved. She does resource guard her food and toys, especially around kids. So I just tell my grandchildren not to bother her when she is eating or playing. I have been working on this because she only does it to kids. I can take her toys and food no problem. Other than that she loves kids. She is heartworm positive but on advantage multi for slow kill method. The rescue pays for the heartworm prevention until she is heartworm negative. She loves other dogs but can be a little mouthy and likes to herd. She is Housebroken and crate trained. Please let your caseworker know if you would like to meet her.
