Wera is the Texas Street Dog special. Underweight and unsure of herself but oh so sweet. She is an absolute stunner. If interested in Wera, please be prepared to be stopped (often) by her fans and admirers while out and about!
Temperament: Sweet, affectionate, gentle. Loves treats and receiving praise from her humans. Quiet in general but also in her crate, which makes her apartment friendly! Happy go lucky.
Training: Wera is definitely “green” but she is incredibly smart and learns FAST. She has mostly mastered sit and shake in less than a week. She is also learning to sit and wait for her dinner until given the “okay” command. Her leash manners improve daily. When she first arrived, she was absolutely terrified of stairs. To be fair, the stairs to my top floor apartment are quite daunting. Picture the steps of Chichen Itza. Well I’m their upstairs neighbor. But a week in and Wera is going up and down like a pro!
Dogs: Wera is good with dogs! She can be an enthusiastic weirdo upon first meeting so as always, slow intros are necessary.
Cats: Wera is good with cats! HOWEVER, she will try to engage my cat in play. Sometimes - and by that I mean when the stars have aligned and Imhotep has risen from his dusty tomb - the cat is receptive. When he is not, I will give Wera a quick correction which she takes beautifully. I always recommend very slow intros when integrating dogs and cats. I’m talking slower than it’s taking Jason Momoa to realize I’m his soulmate. Make sure the cat has a place to escape where Wera can’t go. I think she will live quite nicely with a dog friendly cat. She could probably even coexist with a dog hating demon spawn, it will just take time.
Oh! And before I forget (I need to remember to take my ginkgo), Wera is heartworm NEGATIVE!
