Corazón was found at a closed restaurant in Texas. He was originally used to provide security at the restaurant, but when it closed, he was left abandoned there. SSR scooped him up! He arrived to Virginia the beginning of March with bleeding sores and ulcers around his eyes. Originally thought to be an autoimmune disorder, with warm compresses multiple times a day, a nice bath, a clean environment, good food, eye ointment and some extra TLC, they cleared up very quickly leading the vet to believe it was just a bad infection. He neutered on 3/18/22, has recovered well and is ready for his forever home.
Corazón lived his life as a guard dog so he should not be placed in a home with young children. He does not appreciate small running humans and becomes protective of his person. He does well with dogs smaller than him and pushy puppies as well as cats. He originally does well with large dogs but becomes protective of his human if he feels they are a threat. When walking with his foMom if another humans were to walk or run past he does guard her and has a very big bark. FoMom is working with him to figure out exactly what training he has and what commands he knows to help retrain him for success. He has mostly overcome his fear of tiled and wooden floors and is doing better on car rides. He has recently started playing with toys and relaxing more in his foster home. He is crate trained and does not chew on things he’s not supposed to, with the exception of one throw rug at FoMoms house. Since his neuter he is marking in the house less and less.
Corazón is heartworm positive and is being treated for this. SSR will cover the full treatment even once he is adopted.
