3/1/2022 Nell Update:

OMGosh what a sweetheart!!!  Full disclosure...yes I would like to keep her but honestly I want to keep them all!!! LOL, but I can't help it because she is exceptional. Nell is recovering nicely from mange, her fur is growing in and it is a beautiful and very unusual blonde/tan mix with tiny touches of red and some black. There are little wisps of curls which makes me wonder what other breed is in there.

I said that Nell is moderate in her energy level and exercise needs, I didn't want to overstate or understate and unfortunately I think that is such a matter of personal opinion but I absolutely think she loves to move, is curious and adventurous.  I think she can go as long and far as you want to. I don't think she is Mal crazy but she's no slouch.  I would consider her a perfect active companion for walks, runs or hikes. When you are done with the fun stuff she is ready to hang out with you on the couch and snuggle:)

I do believe she needs a fence or must be on a leash at all times. Not saying she couldn't be trained to go off leash but she's not there right now.

Nell does this quirky little dance thing outside that I've never seen another dog do; she is very focused on the ground as though she can hear or smell underground vermin, ie vole, mole, and the like. She prances and marches and leaps, I call it the "mole march" or the "gopher shuffle". I am hoping to post some videos that capture some of her "fancy footwork", it's just so delightfully adorably Nell !!!

Nell is super smart!!! She also has a great sense of hearing and smell. Someone has done some basic training with her, she sits at the door and waits to be let out, will run to you when called occasionally and walks ok on a leash. She will pull for sure if she see wildlife, deer, squirrel etc. Do not know if she is cat friendly but I am suspecting NOT as she seems to have a high prey drive.

She goes into her crate with a little coaxing but will cry for 5 -6 minutes letting you know "HEY....I want to be with you"! She then does settle down and will go to sleep. I don't think she has separation anxiety but truthfully my dogs are never alone, if I am not here I have pet sitters that stay with them.

Nell has never met a stranger, she is receptive to all people and dogs (at least mine so far).  I haven't had her with other dogs yet as she was spayed recently and am keeping her low key until next week, we'll try doggie day care next week and I will update post after a visit or two but I expect her to love the interaction and activity with the other dogs.

Nell is an absolute sweetheart of a dog and she will make someone an exceptional family pet:)

Nell was found as a stray in a Texas neighborhood.  She is such a sweet soul and was so grateful to be rescued.  She stole our hearts with her crying after being captured.  She is suffering from hairloss, but is receiving treatment.  She arrived in VA on February 11th.
