Izak was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.  He is heartworm positive (will be treated at SSR's expense) and also has some rear leg weakness that needs to be assessed.  Izak passed our cat test in Texas.  He arrived to his Virginia foster on January 28th.

Update-1/30/2022 I picked up Izak yesterday the 29th. He did great in the car. He needs help getting in cause his back legs are kinda week/ wobbly. He is 83 pounds but he is a very large shepherd once he gains muscle and puts the weight back on he will be even more gorgeous. He is still decompressing so he hasn't met my male yet. Just sniff each other thru baby gates. Izak is really shy and will only come for pets when he wants to. I am not pushing to hard to pet him because I want him to trust me first. He seems to be Housebroken. He goes outside to do his business and comes back in. I don't think he likes the snow and cold. He has trouble on stairs he can do one step and seems fine but more than that right now might be too much for his back legs/hips.  I will update more once I get to know him a little better. If you have any questions or would like to meet izak please contact your caseworker and they will let me know.

Update: I have had Izak for a week now. I cannot believe someone gave this dog up. He is a perfect gentleman. He passed his cat test in Texas. He is great with my grandchildren. And my youngest grandson is 2 months old. He sniffs him and walks away. He is very hand shy, when I go to pet him he hunkers down or moves away like I'm going to hit him. He has finally let me pet him for more than a minute now. Which is a vast improvement compared to when I first got him. He loves belly rubs and his chest scratched. He still can't do many stairs. When he goes down one step it's like his back legs are weak and he wobbles like he is going to fall. He does better going up one step. I think once he builds a little muscle and gain a little weight he will be able to do stairs. He has met my male dog and he does great. He is heartworm positive but the rescue pays for the slow kill method.

UPDATE: 3/16/21 Izak saw the vet today. It was suspected from xrays that he might have spina bifida.  The vet said no. He does have mild arthritis in back legs. And he has mild neuropathy in hind legs. The vet said the only way to determine for sure is a cat scan. He did great at the vet and everyone loved him. They also think Izak is 5-6 years old instead of 2. Izak is the sweetest boy and would make anyone a great pet.  He is easy to please and loves pup cups once he figured out what it was. Even though izak is going thru heartworm treatment slow kill and takes medicine to help with pain as needed, he is the easiest most gentle boy ever. With proper exercise and nutrition it won't cure the neuropathy but it will help control it for him to live a long happy life.
