Sakari is a BEAUTIFUL 4 year old sable shepherd who loves people and in true GSD form, always wants to be near them. She can be vocal, and barks at passerby and delivery trucks. While she would prefer to cuddle in bed with you, she doesn’t mind the crate as long as she’s near you. She has so much love to give, she forgets that she’s a 60 lb shepherd! She has been tested and does well with older kids, however because of her size and level of excitement, very young children are not recommended. She is a bit of an alpha female in our house and can play rough with the other dogs, so needs a dog friend who is active and can keep up with her. She does pull on the leash (especially for squirrels!) and has a high prey drive, and so wouldn’t do well with cats without some really dedicated training. At 60lb as of 2/28, she is still working up to her ideal weight - probably another 10 lb to go. She is heartworm positive and will continue to be treated at SSR’s expense. While she is being treated she will need to be kept calm and low-energy (leashed walks/potty breaks, no rough play). She’s a high energy dog; toys and chews and training are a must. She’s practicing her Sit, Down, and Paw; but this smart girl could learn a lot more! Sakari was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas. She is heartworm positive and will be treated at SSR's expense. She arrived in Virginia on December 3rd.
