10/25/22: Bennett is another dog that just passed a milestone that we do not wish on any of our dogs - over one year in foster care. We pulled him off a last minute euthanasia where he was skin and bones. He has been nursed back to health and patiently waiting for the right home for a very, very long time. Bennett is such a good, HAPPY boy and cannot wait to find his forever! It takes some time to win over his heart; when you do, get ready to laugh at a bouncy guy who demands pets 24/7 by resting his head in your lap or flicking your hand up on top of his head. Bennett loves his daily walks with his doggo sister and he will sit and wait for his release command at the front door, at crosswalks, etc. He walks well on leash and generally pays no attention to dogs barking at him (even the little ones who think they are big!). Bennett is crate trained and is crated during the workday and at night with no issues whatsoever. He will actually go into his crate on his own and lay down when he is extra sleepy. Otherwise, he can be found gnawing on an antler (his favorite!), or sitting or standing next to his foster mom waiting for head scratches. Bennett will absolutely find your lap and grin a big, stupid, goofy grin if you sit on the floor with him. Bennett can be mouthy and likes to test boundaries, so structure, discipline, and continued training are a must for his new home. He will thrive in an adult-only home or a home with older, dog-savvy young adults. Walks are great for his exercise because he gets to be with YOU! Just make sure to keep on your toes because his prey drive is always on high alert for bunnies and squirrels, which also means no cats for this guy. Also, Bennett can be selective with other larger dogs and appreciates slow introductions; he continues to be closely supervised in his foster home after six months. Finally, this guy came to VA from TX with a very nasty double ear infection that was quite difficult to treat because his ears had likely never been thoroughly treated in his past life. He required three cleansing/medicated ear treatments under anesthesia earlier this year and Bennett is so much happier, now! We did find that he will have lifetime allergies, which are actively being controlled with a typical allergy medication.
