9/22/21: Cat update - Tyson was cat tested and did OK. He was interested in the cat but not aggressive at all. He should be fine with proper slow introductions and making sure he does not fixate. (While he did well on his cat test, he has not lived with a cat so adopters with cats should be patient, keep a leash on him around cats to enforce correction, and use baby gates in the beginning.)

9/20/21:
If it is puppy energy you are looking for, keep on scrolling. But if it’s a sweet, gentle, calm, quiet, and faithful companion you’re looking for, then check out Tyson 2236. This 7-year old/58 pound sweet boy will lovingly place his paw on your leg to let you know he’d love a pet. He is great in the car and does not chew or display any destructive behaviors. Tyson likes to follow you wherever you go and lounge around like a couch potato, but he gets a pep in his step outside on his walks and is playful in the house with his toys. He loves to lean in and nuzzle for head scratches and rolls over for belly rubs. He gives sweet kisses and takes treats very gently. Tyson is fine in the crate, house broken, and allows touch all over – even when eating, drinking, and playing with his lamb squeaky toy. He does not exhibit resource guarding behavior.

He is great meeting other people; He will immediately offer a paw and wait for a pet or offer a light kiss. He does enjoy a dog bed, and he hasn’t been mischievous in the slightest. Tyson does great with the resident German Shepherd – he’s totally submissive – but we’re not sure yet about kids or cats yet (we’re hoping to test him this week). He’s a little underweight so we’re working on that. Even though he doesn’t know how to heel, exactly, he is very obedient when you gently guide or correct him on the leash. He doesn’t bark very often and has never growled with his foster family. He has an adorable whisper/whine (I call it a whisper/whine because it's so quiet) when he wants to play with the resident GSD or is excited to see you come home from work. He likes to keep himself clean with grooming, loves belly rubs, and enjoys rolling over.

Tyson was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas and parts of his ears are missing. He is not yet neutered and is heartworm positive - to be treated at SSR's expense. He also has a few callused on his belly and legs, and his two front bottom teeth are worn down.

If you are an approved adopter and are interested in Tyson, please let your case worker know. If you are not yet an approved adopter but are interested, please complete an adoption application and review the adoption process, www.shenandoahrescue.org/adoption-process.
