Delman was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas after being surrendered because his family was moving. He is an excellent car rider so we are not sure why he couldn't go with them. Delman is a very sweet and goofy boy. He loves to lounge around and sun himself. He also prefers to have belly rubs at all times of the day. He is not an overly active dog and would make a great companion animal for anyone as long as they give belly rub. He likes other animals, including cats and small dogs. He hasn't meet a human he doesn't like or demand belly rubs from. Delman is housebroken and crate trained. He knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. He keeps his crate nice and neat and loves playing with plush toys between his belly rubs. Delman was recently diagnosed with bilateral front elbow dysplasia and bilateral rear hip dysplasia. He will require long term medications with his belly rubs and could possibly need surgery down the road. Keeping him at a healthy weight and a good muscle mass is a must for his joints. He will need to take joint supplements, Dasaquin Advanced daily. These are around $60 for a 3 months supply. The vet also recommend Adequan injections for him. This is an injection given in the scruff, at home, once a month. At his current dose, these are about $150 for a 5 month supply from Chewy with a prescription from your vet. Some dogs are able to go two or three months between injections once it is built up in their system. Delman may require a total hip replacement but we are trying to treat with medications, weight gain and muscle mass building at this time. Delman is heartworm positive and will be treated at SSR's expense. He does have a bite history on a small child that he used to live with. We don't have may details on it but the paperwork states he went back home after his bite quarantine and lived with them for another few months until they moved and took him back to the shelter. It states it was unprovoked but we will never know what happened. Delman is so sweet and gentle but due to this history he can only be placed in a home with older considerate children. Because of Delman's orthopedic issues, his ideal home is one where he can lounge around all day. He wont make a good running or hiking buddy and needs soft plush surfaces to help his pain. Delman does great on stairs but its possible in his older age he will need more assistance and assistive devices for mobility.
