Elena is lively, eager to please, and affectionate, with lots of puppy-like energy. She has learned some basic training commands very quickly, and would probably make a great agility dog. She will need slow introductions to other dogs and someone to manage her boundless energy.

Cats- Elena is interested in my chickens but I don't see a high prey drive in her. She will want to play with a cat but can leave things alone if they are not fun and there are better things to do. 

Kids- Elena is still learning manners and will chase down a running child and knock them over with much joy and enthusiasm, as would many young dogs. She would be great with older kids or a person committed to managing a young dog and young children. 

Other Dogs- Elena took about a week to decompress and befriend my dogs. She can bark fiercely at strange dogs who she thinks are a threat, but is a love bug as soon as she gets to know them. She takes corrections from my older dog and just wants to have fun. 

Crates- Elena wants to be with her person always and forever. She will try to escape confinement to get to her person. I have been able to keep her in a strong crate. She likes to chew blankets and pillows, but also accepts a verbal "no" and disengages. I am sure this is something that an adopter can work out with her. 

Elena's paperwork says she's 2 years old. She acts like a puppy, but appears to be fully grown.

Volunteer comments:
Elena has so much personality and can't believe she almost wasn't rescued. We saved her last minute from being euthanized at a TX shelter, and she is the sweetest dog ever. She is nervous at first but has absolutely no aggression. I didn't hesitate to load her into the car with my 7 year old. She will crawl into your legs, or jump to your chest for hugs. This is such an amazing dog!

Elena was transferred was a partner rescue in Texas.  She arrived to her foster in Virginia on August 7th.
