Koda is a 1 year old female, Dutch Shepherd mix. She’s a sweet and loving girl once she warms up although can be nervous and timid when first meeting new people. She’s very good motivated and warms up quickly when offered a treat. She lacks confidence in many situations and could use an owner who is patient and will help boost her confidence. Ideally her future owner would start basic training right away to help boost her confidence and bond with her. Despite her timidness, she’s gentle and does well around little kids despite their energy making her more nervous. She also does well out in public despite her being obviously nervous and will more socializing she could easily tag along on activities.

Koda has separation anxiety and has a hard time being alone. She is working on crating training and learning it’s not okay to poop in the house or in the crate when left alone. She will need an adopter willing to continue working on crate training and creating a healthy distance with her to help address her separation anxiety. While it may be easy to think she needs  someone with her all of the time, it is actually more healthy for her to learn to be okay alone.

Koda is good with other dogs after a slow introduction. She was cat tested in Texas where she originally failed. Once arriving in Virginia she was cat tested again where it was found she can be good with cats as long as they aren’t skittish and don’t run from her.

Koda was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas.  She arrived to her Virginia foster on August 7th.
