Senior dogs are the best and Wally is here to prove that! No crazy puppy shenanigans for this boy. Just lots of love and a good amount of leisure. Wally came to us from a cruelty case in Texas. At first we were not sure of his age because he was in such rough shape. After pulling 50+ ticks off him and getting him to a vet, we have found that Wally has some mobility issues, but his sweet personality has survived intact. Wally starts his day with a 30 minute walk. He loves his walks and it is good for his arthritis to keep him mobile. He won’t be sprinting but is perfect for a leisure morning stroll to see the neighbors. After his walk, he likes to recharge with some breakfast and a good nap. Following his nap, he trails the humans around to supervise their comings and goings, followed by, well another nap! For his afternoon workout, he loves to play and chase his toys around the house. Wally really looks to this to be his creative outlet. Toys left in the same place are just so last year. As Wally is doing his redecorating, he does pass by his dog and cat friends in the house. He pays them no mind, and if they want to follow him around, well the more the merrier! He isn’t so much a “play” dog as an “observe others playing” dog. His arthritis and spondylosis (a fancy word for wear and tear on the spinal disks) makes rough play painful for him. Chasing toys, no problem. WrestleMania with another dog, not his thing. This would also make kids not a great fit for Wally. With the unpredictable nature of little ones (and sometimes older ones too!) Wally would do best in a slower paced and kid free home. Wally is not what you would call and “Insta-Love” dog. After all that he has been through, he is still the sweetest guy ever, but will need time to understand you are a good human. He will be a little shy with new adopters, but once you earn his trust, Wally will be bonking your arm for pets left and right! Wally is completely potty trained and can be 100% trusted in the house. (Other reason Senior Dogs Rock!) He just wants to do his thing and has no desire to bother yours. Wally walks well on a leash and shows no signs of resource guarding. Wally can do a few steps, but more than 2 or 3 is past his comfort zone. Wally’s upkeep is that of a senior boy that has not been treated well. He is on daily meds for his arthritis, gets monthly Adequin injections, and is responding well to weekly cold laser therapy. We feel that with continued treatment, we can keep Wally’s pain at bay and give him some amazing love that he has missed out on. Are you the person to put a smile in Wally’s heart?
