Rocky was transferred to SSR from a local shelter. He was at the shelter when other dogs were brought in that unknowingly had distemper. Since Rocky had not been vaccinated prior to arriving in the shelter, he unfortunately has now tested positive. SSR volunteers stepped up, pulled him, and will be immediately seeking treatment. Since he is currently not showing any signs of distemper, we believe he will make a full recovery with no affects from the disease. Obviously, he will not be available for some time while he undergoes treatment. He is currently located with a foster in Maryland. 8/1/21 update: Rocky received distemper serum and seems to be recovering well. His URI is almost completely gone and he did not develop any neurological symptoms. He will get another distemper test in about two weeks and hopefully will be able to start meeting people after that. Rocky does well with humans of all sizes. He is a little jumpy so will knock over small children. He is working on potting outside and doing well. He has not been tested with other animals as he is in isolation but we don’t have any reason to believe he isn’t friendly with others. He is a very smart boy and likes to explore and He really enjoys watching birds and kitties on TV If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know.
