Mocha is a sweet little dog. She very much enjoys the comforts of home and can be found lying peacefully on her dog bed. She is quiet, calm, and non-destructive in the house. Mocha is housetrained and walks well on leash. She is crate trained and shows no indication of separation anxiety. I have yet to hear her bark or vocalize as she is very reserved and shy. She may be a good option for apartment living or as a companion dog for older adults. She should also do well with older, considerate children. She is a people dog through and through and will seek out affection once you have gained her trust. Mocha is a gentle soul that will require an owner who is extremely patient and will give her a lot of time to adjust to her new environment. She will do best with someone who is able to help guide her through life. Mocha can be skittish and fearful in certain situations. I do consider her a flight risk, so it is important that she is monitored outdoors. I highly recommend her adopter invest in teaching her a solid recall. Mocha resides with two resident dogs and has made great strides with co-existing with them. However, she is not a dog that is comfortable around other dogs. Based on some wounds that she had when she came to me, I believe that she was likely attacked or involved in a dog fight at some time, which may be why she is insecure around other dogs. She should not be taken to dog parks for this reason. I believe that she does have the ability to reside with other dogs, but it may take a very long time, a lot of work and a dog savvy person to help her navigate interactions and gain trust around them. She is not dog-reactive, but will snap in situations where she is made to feel uncomfortable (especially face-to-face dog interactions) so she should not be encouraged to meet other dogs on leash. Mocha has been taught how to appropriately avoid confrontation with other dogs by walking away during moments of discomfort. We continue to work on integrating her with our pack and are very impressed with her progress thus far.
