Fay and her sisters, Fedora and Fifi, were rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas and arrived at their foster homes May 29th. Upon arrival, Fifi became gravely ill with distemper but is expected to make a full but slow recovery. Fedora and Fay were both given NDV serum as a preventative, and have not displayed any symptoms. Fay's quarantine period is now up and we are happy to report that she is a healthy and happy girl who is ready to meet her forever family. Fay is a loving and active little dog, and probably won't be more than 40 lbs when fully grown. She would do equally well in a large home or an apartment. Fay walks beautifully on a leash and uses the restroom within minutes of being taken out. She does not require a yard as long as she is given access to a nearby dog park or long walks where she can burn off the zoomies. She's very quick, and is obsessed with catching the Cicadas in mid-air. Fay is also not much of a barker, so would be well-suited for city life. She also loves the water, and has enjoyed both her foster mom's pool and taking a dip in the Chesapeake Bay. Fay does submissive pee (foster mom has nicknamed her the Piddler) around new people but this will subside in time as her confidence grows. She is potty trained and crate trained and we have not experienced any accidents in the house. Fay is confident around and gets along well with other dogs. She is still a puppy and very much likes to run and play. She was recently cat tested at PetSmart and was curious but did not bark or lunge at the kitties in the cages. We suspect she will be fine in a home with cats but most likely will need to be re-directed if she starts to chase. Fay is basic trained (sit, down, wait, touch, leave it), and her adopters will need to continue her training. If you are ready for a bundle of energy who would love to go on long adventures with you, Fay is your girl.
