Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Hello hoomans. My name is Penelope (no last name yet). I am a sweet 6yo German Shepherd mix. And as I am such a smart girl, foster mom has agreed to let me introduce myself.
I LOVE hoomans who let em kiss them and cuddle with them and who give me head scratchies. I haven’t spent any time around little hoomans so foster mom thinks we should be cautious and stick to hoomans who are older than me, so 7yo and up. Though with time I think I’d be just fine around the young ones.
I was found as a stray in TX and have not had much socialization with other doggos outside of those loud places foster mom calls boarding. I don’t fully understand doggo interactions but I do like most dogs. I think a bit of training and socialization with a patient dog parent would do me good.
I am a relaxed girl, enjoying long days in the yard resting in the shade of the bushes or if it’s not too hot, rolling in the sun warmed grass. Though I enjoy a yard I don’t think it’s required so long as you take me on walkies multiple times a day. Please no 5 mile runs up hills and mountains, remember I’m from TX where it’s mostly flat and I have already done all the running I could ever need to do in my 6 years of surviving.
I also enjoy sitting inside on my bed (or the couch when foster mom isn’t looking) playing with my stuffed toys that foster mom has gotten me and also let me pick out on my own at the thing she calls a store (those are fun to visit). Did I mention I love car rides and pup cups? I really do.
I do want to mention that when I was found I had something called mange. SSR treated it and I feel so much better. But I do still have itchy spells. Foster mom is trying to help with these. She gives me baths (I no like these) and has tried different foods. She so smart, she notice I no like chicken based kibble so she got me a new one that is much better. She says it’s lamb based. All I know is I enjoy it a lot more than that old stuff.
The vet did a skin scrape (owie) and said all was good so we aren’t to sure why I itch but foster mom thinks it’s a combination of food and also that my hair is starting to grow back where the mange took it away. So hopefully with the right diet and some time I’ll feel even better.
So now all I need in life is a furever family. So if you are interested in being that please apply to adopt (buttons at the top of this page) or reach out to your caseworker if you are already approved.
