Kemper is only 11 months old, and shouldn’t have been euthanized over an injury. As the story goes, his owner found him with a gnarly wound. He has 50 acres that Kemper ran, and he didn’t come home one night. He came back the next day, severely injured. The owner tried to piece together every dollar he had, but he couldn’t afford the required care and was going to euthanize him to alleviate his suffering. We took over his current $1000 invoice, and agreed to pay for the $4000+ plus hospitalization and surgery. Per the owner, his neighbors have exotic deer and warned him to keep Kemper away. It sounds like he was an outdoor dog, and the owner believes he ventured off and caught a bear trap. Kemper was raised around little kids and is a very friendly boy. We have no hard feelings towards the owner and appreciate that he did the right thing to surrender Kemper into our care. We won’t return him to live outside with the risks in doing so, but we’ve assured him he’s in great hands with us. He is recovering beautifully and will make his way to the Virginia area in April.
