February 10, 2021 - Chewy is now with his foster family and doing very well! Chewy is housebroken, hardly ever barks, doesn't jump, goes in his crate at night and sometimes during the day, knows the commands "NO" and "BACK" but is still learning his name and other commands. He walks well on a lead, very little pulling, eats well, and enjoys lounging. Chewy is heartworm positive and taking meds, underweight, and not yet neutered. He needs to keep activity low right now because of the heartworm. No running or long hikes. He also needs to gain strength in his hind legs but can get in and out of our SUV with an added step. Despite his name, he does not chew. We believe he was named for another gentle giant, Chewbacca! He is very curious but cautious. Wood and linoleum and tile floors are very scary for him right now but he is slowly gaining confidence. He does not know how to go up the wood stairs yet because they are too slippery. He's very good with older children but hasn't been exposed yet to younger children or other animals such as dogs, cats, and farm animals. We learn a little every day about his personality. Chewy is an absolute sweeetheart!
January 2021 - Chewy was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. He is emaciated so with proper food will be a much bigger dog. He arrived to his Virginia foster on February 6th. Check back soon for updates.
