When asked to describe Max’s personality, his foster said Goofy, with a side of Happy, and an extra dose of Silly. Combine any one of these three together with his Curiosity and Smarts, and you have an amazing dog that will always make sure life is interesting! Max has not always had a safe place to call home, so he tends to be unsure of the unknown and shy away. His family will need to be slow with him, and in return they will get approx. 100 doggie snuggles an hour, tons of laughter, and a best friend for life. With a strong, confident leader, Max’s life will really bloom. Max does well with most dogs but will need a slow introduction. He also gets a thumbs up with cats, chickens, and older kids! As with all our dogs, we recommend a slow introduction to make sure everyone has enough space and time to acclimate to new friends. With Max, he may be a little slower to warm up, but once he does, you have got some lifelong buddies! Max enjoys telling his people all about the happenings in his life. He is a very vocal guy and will make sure you always know what is going on! He also tends to think at 65lbs he is the ultimate lap dog. We have tried to explain to Max that he does not quite fit, but that doesn’t seem to compute. Max loves car rides and prefers the back seat. He also currently goes into the office everyday with his foster and naps the day away. Speaking of naps, Max has a knack for decorating! While he does appreciate all your work in picking out the perfect doggie bed, he thinks it looks best when customized with various blankets and pillows from around your house. He adds them to his bed to make his own little nest. Who doesn’t adore a guy who can accessorize and look so darn cute while doing it? The best form of exercise for this guy? Some good old fashioned ball chases, tug-of-war, or stuffies throwing! Max loves to spend a little time each day just running around the yard and showing off his fun side! He really doesn’t need much exercise, just a few outdoor fun times daily. He can accompany you on walks around the block, but being a crazy man in the back yard is more his thing. Max came to us from Texas with multiple health issues. Through the work of our amazing fosters, he has managed to put many of these issues behind him. His perseverance and happy attitude continue no matter what his next challenge. Max currently has some body tremors that are a result of surviving Bartonellosis, Neosporosis, and possibly Distemper. Health wise, he is clear of all of these, however the tremors remain, particularly on his right side. Max also has very early-stage kidney failure. Our vets believe he still has many more great years, but keeping him on a kidney diet will be important. He does not require an additional medication or supplements at this time. Max is a wonderful guy looking for a wonderful home! With his sweet gentle soul (a goofy side!) he is all about his people and learning to explore the world around him. With each new discovery he makes, his personality blooms! He would really shine with the right person there to build up his confidence and let Max know he is loved.
