Hogan came to us in early July from a Texas shelter. He arrived a bag of bones: emaciated, very weak, covered in mange, heartworm positive, and intact. His kennel card read “No Name”. He was in such poor shape that shelter workers thought he must be at least 10 years old. SSR got him proper veterinary care, where doctors determined he was the half the weight he should be, and that he was also younger than 10. He was given a name, and shown care and love, probably for the first time in his life. Hogan arrived to Virginia on 8/9, where he continues to get healthy while he learns what it means to be a beloved household pet. Despite everything he's been through, Hogan has shown nothing but love and trust. He is sweet, friendly, and very energetic for an older gent. He could play fetch for hours. Hogan enjoys the company of all people and other dogs. He is friendly to children but could easily knock down or step on smaller kids when he's excited or playing. He loves cats but can be a little too persistent and annoying in his desire to play with them. Hogan has a strong will, and will need an experienced adopter committed to teaching and reinforcing rules and boundaries. He is eager to please and easy to train, and just needs consistent leadership to help him be his best self. Hogan will be neutered in mid-September and will be available for adoption after he recovers. He'll be treated for heartworm disease at SSR's expense after adoption. Please consider opening your heart and your home to this sweet boy, and helping him on his journey to healing . Hogan will repay you a thousand times over with love and devotion.
