Levi is a 5 year old, 75lb German Shepherd.  This poor guy has had a rough life before being rescued.  While we we don't know his past, we do know he was picked up as a stray before making his way to a kill shelter in Texas.  He is a very sweet, and loving dog that seeks out attention from people.  He does have trust issues with some men which could be an indication of a bad experience in his past. With time and patience he quickly warms up to his people and constantly wants to be petted. He is crate trained and does well in a wire crate although does bark for a few minutes before settling down. He is housebroken and will sit patiently by the door while putting on his leash. Given his age, he is not high energy and quickly curls up in a comfy dog bed to rest. He is great with other dogs and is unreactive to other dogs and people on walks.  Cars and trucks driving by do scare him and cause him to bark but we will work on desensitizing him to those. He gets along with the resident cat although he finds her fascinating and will follow along behind her as she trots along.  He seems to just ignore cats. Levi cannot go to a home with small children as he does have a bite history that is triggered by stress but don't let that scare you away.  With a confident owner/handler and a routine, he really thrives and behaves wonderfully. Him and his foster are going to work on basic obedience and confidence building commands to really bring out that wonderful dog that he is inside.

He is heartworm positive but the cost of treatment will be covered by Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue.

Levi was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.  He arrived to his Virginia area foster on August 30th.
