10 May update: SSR Raspu is such a gentleman on a leash and we have switched to 2-3 mile walks per day just so he can stop and smell the roses. This boy would really love someone he can follow around everywhere ALL day long! SSR Raspu the lovable oaf is an awesome guy – he ADORES his person/people. He cannot wait to find his furever family and serenade them to the tune of sirens. (Check out his video!) He will take a bow with the cutest puppy dog eyes, and he accepts payments in the form of belly rubs. This 5 year old neutered German Shepherd is gorgeous and just as sweet as can be! He enjoys his current 2+ mile jogs (more of a fast walk for him!) while respectfully staying close. The rest of the time he wants to be anywhere where you are and he will protest when he does not get his way. Raspu is actually happy to just lounge around – specifically with blankets and pillows to snuggle, thank you very much. He understands some commands (sit, paw, down, stay), and he seems to be a very smart boy. He is on medication (Fluoxetine) for anxiety and compulsive licking of his front legs leading to lesions, though we have only seem him do this once since coming into our care.
Raspu does not prefer being crated, and this brainy guy can easily escape wire crates – so, a sturdy airline crate is recommended! He is learning and accepting that his crate is not so bad, and he is sleeping soundly at night. Raspu is 100% convinced he is a lap dog and that your coffee table is simply an inconvenient step stool between him and snuggles with you on the couch, so his future family would benefit from some additional obedience training. Raspu loves playing with other dogs; small dogs, cats and similarly smaller animals would not appreciate Raspu's size and he is a little too interested in them. He would also do well with older children strong enough to play with him. Are you ready for all the love Raspu has to bring?
