Maddie is a sweet 6 month old German Shepherd who came to SSR as an owner surrender. Her previous owner got Maddie with the intentions of her being a guard dog, but that is not in her personality. She is seriously the sweetest dog. Being only 6 months old with no training Maddie has some manners to learn, like not to jump up on you when she’s excited. She also needs to learn basic commands as well, but will come when you call her. She doesn’t beg for food, though she does get curious to what you might be eating and will come in close for a quick sniff. She does not try to steal food while you’re eating, even if she’s able to and will instead lay on the floor incase your willing to slip her something. She is a typical GSD with tons of energy. She loves to run and play outside. When inside she wants constant attention. She doesn’t care where that attention comes from, whether it’s you, your kids, other dogs, or even a cat. That cat needs to be pretty dog savvy because Maddie comes on strong and doesn’t realize how strong she is with those paws. She loves to chase the cats, as well, but it’s all in fun. When playing with other dogs she is cautious at first but very much wanting to play. She does like to initiate play by barking in the face of other animals. Again, being a GSD she can be a bit whiny at times. That’s usually when’s she’s bored and wants something to do or if she’s being confined. She enjoys some toys and bones, but she is kind of picky. She does pretty good at fetching a ball and bringing it back. This girl loves to go for walks and is so gentle on leash. She absolutely does not like to be in a kennel and is fine if left to roam when you leave the house. Her previous owner said she has chewed chords when they’ve been left out but leaves shoes alone. In her foster home she hasn’t messed with anything while left home alone. Not even the trash can full of trash and food. Her foster mom is pretty impressed by that. Maddie must go to a home with GSD experience and to an active family. It’s very important to her success that she’s able to be active and burn energy.
