Hello, future buddy! I’m Belle and I’m about 2 years young. I was saved from a high-kill shelter in south Texas. When my foster family took me to the vet, they found out I had these things called “heartworms.” I didn’t feel any different, except for my occasional cough, and that’s because the good doctor said it was caught early enough that I should be okay if I take my medicine. I’ve been taking my medicine like a good girl (with some help from treats), and I’m almost done with my first month of treatment, but I’m not a fan of the banana-marshmallow flavoring...ick! My foster family has said I am a “mellow Malinois” because I do not want to play ball or frisbee with my foster brother and sister. Instead, I carry my stuffed toys around the yard and follow my foster brother around. My favorite times are when I can cuddle up next to my foster mom and have her pet my head and belly. And, yes, I do try to fit on her lap for better positioning. I love to be with my family so much that I will try to dig my way out of a fence to reach them, so my foster mom has to be watching me when I go outside. I learned how to open doors with handles, too! So, I like to open all the doors in the house and explore each room. I also LOVE going for my walks around the neighborhood, and my foster mom says I walk nicely on a leash. I like to jog for short bursts, but my exercise has to be slightly limited right now. No worries, though! I’ll be back to full energy in no time! Although I’m a sweet, little lady, I have been known to be a little sassy at times. I get worried when my family leaves the house and live up to the stereotype that “girls eat their feelings.” I have been known to counter-surf and eat anything at my reach. I just can’t help myself, I LOVE food! However, I feel a lot more comfortable if I stay in my kennel when my family steps out for a bit. I am also a talented singer! Whenever the ambulance sirens are close, I like to sing along with them and get my foster brother and sister to sing with me! I also think I’m very talented because I learned how to sit, lie down, and roll over in a couple of weeks with a bit of treat bribing - did I mention I love food? Overall, I’m a good girl who deserves a loving family; hopefully one with lots of space where I can run around and be myself. I’m good with babies and other dogs. I’m just needing someone with patience, affection, and love to make me into the happiest doggy ever. Belle was an owner surrender from Texas. Her continued heart worm treatment will be paid for by SSR. She arrived in Virginia on February 7th. Updates to follow!
