Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.
Heidi was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas. She was f ound laying on the side of the highway, where she spent days, presumably waiting for her family to return. She arrived to her foster in Virginia on August 28th and has been doing great. Heidi is Heartworm positive, but will be treated at SSR's expense and has already started the process. This will not prevent Heidi from going home; she can finish her treatment with her forever family. Heidi is a very loving and affectionate dog. She likes to be near people but is also independent. She is very mellow and laid back and likes to lounge around. She likes to take naps in her crate on her fluffy bed and she does not chew it up. She likes dogs but prefers small dogs over dogs her size. She is very found of children and indifferent with cats. She is crate trained, house broken, rides like a lady in the car and is doing well learning proper leash manners. She is a little skittish of her foster Mom's hard wood floors but is slowly warming up to them. She is also discovering the second floor of foster Mom's house and is starting to brave the stairs. Did you know a lot of dogs from Texas seem unsure of the upstairs? She has no problem with the deck stairs to go outside. Heidi would make a great companion animal for any family, retired couple or even a first time dog owner. She won't mind if you work long shifts as long as you leave her some water and a soft bed to nap on. She has free roam at foster Moms and is a perfect lady! Heidi appears to have had some type of eye surgery in the past but the vet does not think there is any visual problems or long term needs. She also has had some type of trauma to her chest causing a bony callus on her chest bone. She is not bothered by it and it just makes her unique.
