I was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas.  I arrived to my foster in Virginia on June 15th.  I am currently living with my foster family in Sterling, VA which includes 4 humans (a mom, a dad, a young adult, and a teen) along with 3 other furkids (large, medium, and small).

I am really enjoying getting to know them and they are all teaching me what the rules are and treating me like one of the family. My favorite things to do are to play catch and practice my howling with the teen, play with the other pups, well the ones that like to play (there's an old gal who has let me know that my youthful energy is not appreciated), and chill with the pack. She also takes me on walks (I'm still learning how to walk with that long stringy thing) and runs with me in the yard. When we are done, she spends time with me on the floor rubbing my belly or scratching my ears ( I REALLY love that part).

Sometimes during the day I just like to chill in one of my crates or on the floor. They have lots of cushy stuff to lay on so it's comfortable and I like having my own space at times.

I'm minding my P's and Q's and eating nicely and not making a mess when I drink water. I'm looking for a furever home with a loving family who is patient so I can learn things. I would be great on my own or with other dogs, but I like an active life. I really like these older kids, but it would be great to meet some smaller ones to see if I like them too. I heard there are these other creatures called cats, but I haven't met one yet to see if I like them or if they like me. I'm gonna let my foster mom take it from here to tell you a little more about me. (she likes to brag)

Hiya, Shana's Foster Mom here. From the moment my husband saw Shana's eyes he knew we needed to pull her from the kill shelter. She has fit in with our pack so easily and very quickly. She was originally quiet on the ride home, but once in the house became more verbal. She was spayed on day three of having her and is healing nicely. She knows a few basic commands like sit, crate and is learning stay. She has not shown any signs of food aggression and is highly food motivated when training. You can see the intelligence in her eyes when you are teaching her. Keep in mind, she is young and has a lot of energy, but if you are active with her, she is a dream through the night.

We noticed that she is most verbal when others approach her humans, thus showing a protective nature of the people she loves. When our teen leaves, she cries for her a little then goes to lay down. She sleeps in the crate with no issues and has even handled the cone of shame like a champ. (Our dogs all hated it.)

Shana is definitely an alpha female and likes to be in charge. Because she is young, she has a ton of energy and would be best suited with a family that is active outdoors.

We were honored to be able to name her because she was found by the dog catcher in south Texas and put in the shelter. She had a collar on with 2 feet of chain on it that she had been dragging around. They suspect her previous owners had her chained up outside when the hurricanes hit Texas and she managed to escape, but no one ever came to claim her and she was placed on the kill list.

Once she was on their site, one of our SSR volunteers saw her and posted her pics. That's when my hubby saw her. Almost everyone was commenting on the post and saying how pretty she is, so I asked the SSR founders if we could name her Shana, which is "pretty" in Yiddish.  The rest is history!

We are looking for a very special family who will deserve her love because she has so much to give. If YOU are that family, please submit your application right away. We will attend as many adoption events as we can so you can meet her. If you're still with me in reading all of this, you could be the family she's looking for!  Thank you.
