Kyra was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. She arrived to her foster on April 12th. Kyra is total sweet heart. Don’t let her (sometimes) serious face fool you, all she wants is to be with her people and have a comfy spot near you to take naps. This girl is easy going, friendly, and chill but definitely gets a pep in her step when she’s out on a walk or run. She has gained lots of confidence on the leash and flashes a smile at any human or dog who passes by. As we have gotten to know her she has more regular spurts of energy but they are short waves. She really just wants to show you that she’s a fun little pup who likes to have a good time. She loves going for walks on the trail and whether it’s a runner, biker or fellow dog on a leash, she is open to meeting everyone she sees. She has been wonderful when people approach her and will sometimes lay a little kiss on you if you’re lucky. She is a bit jumpy when excited but very manageable due to her small size. She walks well on a leash and will turn around every once in a while to make sure everyone is accounted for. Kyra really loves other dogs and plays beautifully. She does tends to greet dogs with her paws up, which doesn’t work for all dogs, but is doing better with this with a harness. She will need a little bit of work with her introductions but is very playful and loving. Haven’t seen her show an ounce of aggression towards another dog, even if they clearly don’t like her. She’s resilient. Kyra is a very good eater but we have her using a slow feeder bowl as she gets excited to gobble her food up. She has learned “wait, OK” and doesn’t eat her food until we set it down. She is still learning to be a dog as she isn’t too interested in toys or bones. She is starting to understand the hype around bully sticks though. She does love getting her training treats and a good scratch behind the ears. She doesn’t beg when we eat and has shown zero signs of food aggression or resource guarding. Kyra doesn’t love being in the crate but has proven that she is not destructive and can be left alone in the house - you may just find her napping on the couch when you return. She seems interested in squirrels but is re-directed easily and has a low prey drive. We think she may do well in a house with a cat but she has not seen any so far. Kyra loves kids and takes treats very gently. She loves to give kisses, especially when someone is at eye level but she is gentle and takes back scratches very nicely. Kyra is very sweet and will be a wonderful addition to a family looking for a loving pup who will rest her head on your feet while you binge watch your favorite nextflix show or head out for a hike. She’s small but spunky with lots of love to give.
