Gus is a gentle and loving guy who will make a wonderful addition to any family. He is unsure of other dogs and cats and needs to be the only animal in the home. He is good with kids who know how to respect boundaries. He doesn’t bark in the house (would be great in an apartment) and is completely house trained (no accidents at all!) He loves to rub his head on and lean into people he likes and will run/romp around with you inside the house when he feels playful. He walks well on a harness and enjoys short frequent outings. He responds to sit and stay and is working on other commands. We recently discovered that he will lift his front arms up and “hug” you when you pat your chest. Gus is polite and will sit and wait patiently before meals. He lets you dry off his paws after coming inside from walks, tolerates baths, and enjoys car rides. He loves to snooze on his dog bed (this is where he spends most of his time) or right next to you on the couch (if you let him). He does pull when he sees squirrels and current interactions with cats indicate a high prey drive. His personality is changing as he heals and gets stronger. Would do well in home wirh someone who has breed experience or is open to training. Gus does have mild hip dysplasia but is fine on stairs and takes Dasaquin. At a recent vet check, it was discovered he also has a grade 2 heart murmur, which could lead to congestive heart failure over time.
