Dexter was dumped in the bushes by his "owners" in the middle of nowhere in Texas, where he sat for days before someone rescued him. He had a thick collar around his neck and a rope. He was taken in by SSR and is looking for a home where he'll receive the love and caring that he obviously never really received. Dexter is heartworm positive and will be treated by SSR. He arrived to Virginia on May 24th. From his Texas foster: Dexter is young and adventurous! He is a high energy boy that needs walks everyday. He is obedience trained so is a great walker! Dexter can sit, down, stay, come, kennel, go to his bed, heel and more. But is still a baby mentally and will need your patience and time. Sometimes he can be shy just initially to visitors. He is more interested in his person rather than all people he see's on the walk. He is loyal. Dexter is one if the few dogs that comes with dog training. From His Virginia Foster: Dexter is learning to love being in a home instead of in boarding! He really just wants to be with his person and while he is fine in his crate, he would be most happy with someone who is home more often than not. He needs a good long walk to get some of his energy out. He loves to play fetch with a squeaky tennis ball, or chase after a frisbee. He is very playful with other dogs - sometimes overly so. He is great with kids, and can still be shy of new people. He is not aggressive. On a walk he will bark at other dogs because he wants to meet them and play with them - we are working on training for this. He loves to cuddle and snuggle and is a very loving boy. He is being treated for heartworm.
