Simba was rescued by SSR in December of 2018 from a high-kill shelter in Texas. He was adopted out and has spent the last 4 years with what he thought was his forever. Unfortunately, Simba's family grew with children, and one of them was allergic to dogs. After trying to manage the allergies, his owners decided it was too much for everyone and that it would be best to be returned to SSR. Simba is 7 years old and is a very laid back boy. He has basic obedience and knows the following commands: "Sit", "Down", "Come", "Stay", "No", "Eat", "Leave it" and "Outside". He does very well in the house, but is scared of thunderstorms and fireworks. Update: 4/30/23 Simba is truly an amazing dog! He has a very easy going personality and is very chill. He gets along and tolerates the antics of the younger resident GSD in the house that continually licks him and wants to engage him in play. Nothing bothers this dog; he is the Jack Johnson of shepherds. He just takes it all in stride. Simba is good with both dogs and cats and especially loves people and kids. He is literally the easiest foster dog I've ever had. He just goes with the flow. Simba absoluely loves to be outside in spring weather and loves to sunbathe on the deck. He enjoys watching the girls volleyball games in the back yard and occassionally wants to join a team. He chases the occasional squirrel and then retreats to take in the nice spring breezes. Simba is house broken and does fine in the house not crated although I've only left him for short periods of time. His only real issue is he is deathly afraid of thunderstorms and needs reassurance during those times. Simba was recently diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia. He is currently on medicine to treat the hip dyslapsia along with food that contains glucosamine. Simba is doing extremely well on this medicine and feeling much better. We can do short walks and he is back to jumping off the deck to chase squirrels. I do think he will need to continue taking this medicine and be monitored going forward. He is a low energy dog and would do well in a home without a ton of stairs. He would certainly love a companion dog and a deck in a fenced in yard where he could watch over his kingdom like the king that he is.
