Duncan is very smart, sweet, curious, and very playful. He has puppy played rough in the past, but currently this behavior has diminished greatly. He loves being outoors with his person, enjoys walks or jogs. He will sit upon command & is doing well with “heel”. New experiences are his joy- he will make you proud with excellent behavior in public, whether trips to Lowes, Pet Shops, events, etc. A laid back boy.
Duncan responds best in training with rewards of praise & petting, rather than food treats. He just needs direction, consistency, routine. would do wonderfully with an adopterwho is the boss, one who can help him to learn more basics of obedience and proper indoor behaviors in a home environment. He is eager to please, and will work hard for praise. He likes to be around people, he seeks out petting, play, and attention from his humans. He acts so proud when he has a favorite toy that he can show off- Like “look at me”!
Sadly Duncan has not had an opportunity to settle into a home with anyone for any given period of time. With a little polishing he will be an excellent dog for an active adopter. In his “downtime” he stays busy with his toys, Nylabones, & real beef marrow bones.
Duncan’s favorite toys include, a rope squirrel frisbee, tennis balls, squeaky toys. He loves to tear the squeaky out of squeaky tennis balls so firmer balls are recommended. Duncan loves to chase, and fetch – he is still learning to release the ball or toy once he has retrieved it.
Duncan doesn't mind a car-ride. He's had several baths and although a little hesitant at first seems to enjoy the pampering. Duncan has had no accidents in his current Foster home. He is taken outdoors after ever meal & will signal that he needs to potty by standing by the door and nosing the doorknob or a woof. Duncan is friendly toward kids, but due to his playfulness and size, he is recommended for a home with older kids. Has been excellent with an 8 yr old. Not recommended with Assertive cats, but has done fine with others according to a previous Foster. Brief leash introductions have gone well with dogs in the neighborhood. Duncan needs a crate. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate. Duncan can pull on leash but has improved in basic leash obedience.
He enjoys going for his walks and will go to his leash and bump it with his nose when he knows it’s his normal walking time is near. Duncan arrived from TX heartworm positive. He has finished the first stage of his treatment with Doxy & Heartgard tablets.
