Brandy has a soft and gentle disposition. She is cautious but not skiddish. She is not familiar with balls or toys. She will occasionally rag doll shake her stuffed toy, but only briefly. She loves going for walks and does great on the leash. She is very curious, but can be scared of other dogs barking as we walk by. She is doing better with car rides occasionally standing to look out the window. Bath time is an event, but once she is in she’s a trooper. Brandy is surprisingly housetrained, we have had no accidents in the house. She will either wait by the door or wait for you to initiate outside time. Encouragement to stay outside longer in the back yard is often needed. We finally got her to play for the first time, all though short, it was great to see her get a bit excited. She does well with our 8 year old Retriever, but keeps to herself most of the time. We do not know how she does with cats. She has not had basic training. She is starting to get the sit command, but seems unsure. She does tend to jump when there is food, but it is not aggressive, very gentle. She is learning to not jump or take food. This is very hard for her as she is still in survival mode, but she is doing great considering her situation. Locking trash cans and putting dog food container behind closed doors is greatly suggested. Brandy is a very smart dog and has figured how to unlock the food bin. Brandy is recovering from mange and is very thin. She has gained 10lbs from her vet check in Texas to her vet check here. Mixing protein in her diet so she gains weight, but not too fast. She is also heartworm positive and takes preventative which helps until she puts on weight for further treatment. Due to her condition she has low energy, however, due to her not knowing what toys or playtime is, makes it more difficult to judge whether she is tired or just doesn’t know. Energy come in spurts, sometimes with encouragement without pushing her too much. She likes to be around people and will follow you around the house. She is overall, very mellow and will sit or sleep at your feet while you are still. As we don’t know Brandy’s full potential yet, her current ideal family will need some patience with medium energy household for encouragement to learn without over stimulating or tiring her out to much.
