Rocky is a sweet senior who needs a good bum-around pal! Rocky is a long haired, black and tan shepherd we believe to be between 8-10 years old. He loves hanging out with his humans and is happy to lounge the day away on the porch, go for walks, putter in the yard, or hop in the car for a ride. Rocky is not picky about food and is crate and potty trained. He has excellent recall. Once you have earned Rocky’s trust, he will lean into you for pets every chance he gets. Rocky has not always had the best life and we would like to make his senior years great. When we rescued Rocky he was very underweight, had untreated allergies, and has skin issues. We have brought him up to weight, have gotten him on a daily allergy pill and cleared up his skin issues. He is now handsome and stunning! Rocky does need several weeks to get settled into his new home. He will exhibit resource guarding with his food and toys for the first 2-3 weeks. He also warms up very slowly to the resident dogs. It took about 3 weeks for him and the foster’s female dog to become buds and I would expect about 5+ weeks for a male dog. (Rocky is not neutered. Once he is neutered this may allow him to do better with male dogs.) To feel safe enough to let down his guard, Rocky needs a strong handler who will set boundaries and rules for him to follow. He has never truly been part of a family until we rescued him, so he needs guidance and structure. He takes correct well and is eager to learn. Rocky is not cat aggressive, however he needs correction so he doesn’t chase them. He would be good with older kids who can follow the rules and boundaries set by the family for Rocky’s care. Rocky is being treated for heartworms and will be neutered. Both of these will be paid for by SSR, even if he is adopted before they are complete. Please send questions to Kathy_fridley@yahoo.com .
